An official photograph of the members of the Governing Body / Coiste Rialaithe of UCG in office for the period 1 February 1986 - 31 January 1989, together with the two senior administrative officers who serviced it. Missing from the photograph are Most Rev, Dr Eamonn Casey (Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh; nominee of Minister of Education), Donagh O'Donoghue (elected by the NUI Senate), Professor James N. Flavin (elected by Academic Council), Mícheál Ó hUiginn (elected by Galway Corporation), Rt Rev. John R.W. Neill (Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry; nominee of Minister of Education).

Note: Since 1971, the nominees of the Minister of Education had included the current President of the Students' Union / Comhaltas na Mac Léinn, a one-year position filled annually by election. Consequently, for the remainder of the period of office of this Governing Body, Brendan Wilkins (in office till 1 July 1986) was succeeded as a member of the Governing Body by Gráinne Killeen (in office till July 1987), who was in turn succeeded by Patrick O'Flaherty (in office till July 1988) and by ....(in office till July 198).
Note: Since 1971, the nominees of the Minister of Education had included the current President of the Students' Union / Comhaltas na Mac Léinn, a one-year position filled annually by election.
