Margaret (Peggy) McDermott was born in August 1900. She entered UCG in 1918. She obtained her B.A. degree in 1922 with 1st Class Honours and the Higher Diploma in Education also with 1st Class Honours in 1929 (Special Collections).
Margaret (Peggy) McDermott was born on 15 August 1900 (www.irishgenealogy) to parents Patrick McDermott, farmer, Two Mile Ditch, Castlegar, Galway City and Kate Jennings. She came to UCG in 1918 as is also shown in the 1918 – 19 List of Students. The First Examination in Arts in Summer 1919 shows Margaret obtaining 1st Class Honours in Irish and in Logic; and 1st Class Honours in Irish & French in the Autumn Examination of 1921. She obtained her BA degree in 1922 with 1st Class Honours and obtained the Higher Diploma in Education also with 1st Class Honours in 1929.
