Missing from the photograph are M.P.J. ('Bobby') Curran (elected by the Graduates), Eugene Henry (elected by Sligo Co. Council), Professor Seán M. Lavelle (elected by Academic Council), Seán McEvoy (elected by Mayo Co. Council) and Pascal McKeon (elected by Leitrim Co. Council).

Note: Since 1971 the nominees of the Minister of Education had included the then President of the Students' Union / Comhaltas na Mac Léinn, a one-year position filled annually by election. Consequently, for the remainder of the period of office of this Governing Body, Séamus Henry was succeeded as a member of the Governing Body by Peter Conry (1984-85) and Pat Boyd (1985-86), respectively.
