In the course of a distinguished career, Frank Imbusch combined his role as a Physics educator and researcher with that of senior college official.
He was born in Limerick, the son of George Patrick and Alice (Neville) Imbusch. His academic career included appointments as: researcher, Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey, 1964-1967; lecturer, University College, Galway, 1967-1971; associate professor experimental physics, University College, Galway, 1971-1974; professor, University College, Galway, 1974-2002; vice president, University College, Galway, 1992-1998.
His distinctions and professional memberships include: Fellow Institute Physics (United Kingdom), Institution Elec. Engineers (United Kingdom); member American Institute Physics, Royal Irish Academy, elected in 1977, Science Secretary 1989-1991.
